Sorry, but "A Certain Girl" is decidedly NOT a cover of the Yardbirds. The song was first recorded by Ernie K-Doe and released on his "Mother-In-Law" album in 1961. The Yardbirds didn't form until 1963 and recorded their "A Certain Girl" in 1964, and Frankie Ford recorded his version that same year. The Ford version in particular is yet another illustration of the ugly tendency in the 50s and 60s for white artists to cover songs by black artists and attain more popularity than the originals; Pat Boone's sanitized cover of Little Richard's "Tutti Frutti" is one of the more notorious examples. Incidentally, the song was written by New Orleans great Allen Toussaint, under the pen name Naomi Neville (his mother's maiden name). Sorry, didn't mean to get all heavy there...

On a more up note, any show that includes the Smithereens, David Lindley and Split Enz/Neil Finn is a winner in my book! I almost played the Lindley "Werewolves" on my Halloween show, but ended up playing Warren's original because my wife likes it better...

I absolutly love this Message to my girl song but I just figured, my headphones are much more suited for this bombastic sound - so I will be rehearing that episode at home again and again and again - just like last time ;)
