Coverville 230: California-style Covers
Returning from a nice vacation on the West coast, and I've got a collection of tunes that kept us fittingly entertained on the trip. Here's what's on the show tonight:
| Title (with link to iTunes, if available) | Artist | Album (with link to Amazon.com, if available) | Original Artist |
| California | Eddi Reader | Angels & Electricity | Uncovered Gem of the Week |
| California Dreaming | Pat Dinizio | This Is Pat Dinizio | The Mamas and the Papas |
| Going To California | Never The Bride | Encomium: A Tribute to Led Zeppelin | Led Zeppelin |
| God Only Knows | Joss Stone | Favorite Songs (Gap) | Beach Boys |
| California Sun | Joe Jones | The Best of Joe Jones: You Talk Too Much | Most famously covered by the Rivieras and the Ramones (just to name a couple) |
| Hotel California | The Gobos | It's Naked Time | Eagles |
| L.A. Woman | Leningrad Cowboys | Leningrad Cowboys Go America | Doors |
Shame shame, Brian - no covers of Joni Mitchell's "California"? There are some really nice ones if you want to do a California Pt II.
Robert Plant was IN AWE of Joni and wrote "Going to California" about her:
"Someone told me there's a girl out there, with love in her eyes and flowers in her hair..."
Keep rockin',
Bob
Hey Brian, there's a version of "Don't Fear The Reaper" that I absolutely love, and there's NO COWBELL! It's by a band called gus. Think you might have it/find it/play it?
Posted by: Ali at August 12, 2006 9:20 PMHi Ali,
Got eight versions of the track - none of them by Gus. I'll track it down and give it a spin!
"Reaper" without cowbell? Isn't that kind of like driving a car with no tires?

Posted by: Lockjaw at August 13, 2006 12:08 AMBrian, I don't know if you noticed, but iTunes has new category pages for podcasts, and Coverville is featured on the music page!
Posted by: sean at August 13, 2006 12:39 AMThose Beach boys and Led Zeppelin covers were sweet!
Joss Stone is still only 19. What a voice! Another fine British export!!
