Six by Six Brian. What a great episode!!!

Hmm...Great show, but I think maybe you played the wrong request clip there before the final song :)

Posted by: Jordan at November 13, 2006 9:37 AM

Actually, Jordan - there wasn't a request in the last phone-in. He was just telling me about the Suzanne Vega show he saw, and the fact that she covered the remix of her own "Tom's Diner". (And as much as I'd love to play her live cover - I don't have access to recordings of her concert.)

Didn't like this show much. But that's not why I'm commenting.

The Joni Mitchell cover story is really growing on me. I keep playing that sucker over and over. Don't like the first 2 songs much, even though they're closer to what I listen to than your usual show. But from the third song on, this is an absolutely stunning episode.

One more thing. You think that's speed metal? I listen to speed metal. That ain't it. I sent Nevermore's cover of The Sound of Silence. That, my friend, is speed metal :)

"I wanna be se'dayt'd" - love it! Great Polynesian and Country flair to it. I also really loved Willie Nelson's rendition of "Hallelujah". He has such a unique voice and it's perfect for that song. Well Done!

Ok...Some bands should just NOT try to cover KISS. Otherwise, great show.

MrChris, is it groundhog day already? :-)

I thought the show was great and especially loved the challenge!

On Dr John, I recalled today that he covered the song Cruella da vil in the 1996 live action movie of 101 Dalmations - pretty good version too. Maybe play that on the Disney cover show?!

Last time I was at the house of the mouse in Florida we took a tour round the set for that movie and looked at some of the props.

What's been bothering me is that there's nothing gramatically wrong with "I feel good," and Dan B's explanation is wrong.

In the sense it's used in the song, "feel" is a linking verb, referring back to the subject, and it doesn't take an object or an adverb. Grammatically, it's the same as the verb "to be," and requires an adjective after it. "I feel sick," I feel angry," "I feel tired," etc. You can use the word "well" after "feel" in this sense, but "well" is used as an adjective then--as in "not sick"--not an adverb.

If you're talking about a person's sense of touch, then "feel" changes to an action verb and should indeed be modified by an adverb. In that case, "I feel good" is wrong and "I feel well" is right--but only if you're talking about someone's incredible sense of touch. 99.9% of the time, people don't talk about a person's prowess with their fingertips.

Can you tell I've been doing way too much proofreading?

Thanks again, so very much for playing the "Sexyback" cover. If you ever need more, be sure to drop on by the site anytime. Keep in touch and I look forward to future shows and playing catchup with the earlier episodes,

James E

KathyB, that is wonderful!

Posted by: Wayne from the UK at November 16, 2006 2:10 AM

KathyB, I was about to write in and say the same. Both Brian and Dan have it exactly backwards - "I feel good" is as correct as "you look sad" or "that flower smells nice". ("I feel well" = "that flower smells nicely".)

That James Eric cover of Sexyback is great. Send more of your stuff in! I sent it to my friends here at the office, Leroy, Nate, Siibass, Old Man Geri, they all loved it. Keep em comin'!

*snort* I'm too old for Justin Timberlake. I don't think I've ever heard him sing, but I'm vaguely aware of him and what he looks like. And that song, "Sexyback"? I don't know what it sounds like with him singing it, but listening to the lyrics and visualising him...I don't think hysterical giggles are quite the effect he was looking for. I'll leave him to the 13-year-olds and look forward to listening to the songs from 1986 in #264.

Yay to KathyB and Dennis for correcting this. I am way behind, but I was pleased someone was ready to correct that.
