Grats on reaching 300, I've been listening since way way back in 2004 and I'm sure I'll be listening for a long time to come :)

It was Jimmy Somerville Brian, and the band was the Communards. Jimmy was formerly in a band called Bronski Beat. Anna didn't mention this, but that Thelma Houston version of "Don't leave me this way" was actually a cover itself - the original was Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. Would be a nice originalville moment.

Thanks for playing my audio (nearly crashed the car this morning) and questions. Really interesting show all around and some great songs. Here's to another 300!

Yeah, the names "Jimmy Somerville" and "Bronski Beat" came to me as soon as I clicked off the recording last night. Bronski Beat was what I was trying so desperatley to remember.

That and Telma Hopkins (as I mentioned, from Bosom Buddies). She was a member of Dawn, as in Tony Orlando and..., and she also sang the backup on Isaac Hayes' "Shaft" ("Shut Your Mouth").

Congrats on getting to 300. I'm only 283 behind you!

Other End Of The Telescope was on 'Til Tuesday's third album, Everything's Different Now. Their second album was Welcome Home.

Hi Brian, congratulations on getting to 300!

Congratulations on 300 Brian. I love that Tristan tells his friends at school that HE has a show called Coverville with his Dad.

My girl had never seen "The Blues Brothers" before either! Appalling. We rented it last weekend so she could see it. Great film... the most awesome music ever in a movie, and the most car chases you could ever hope for.

I have to say, Brian... I think its more tragic that you've not seen Rocky, than Tina missing Blues Brothers. I hope that's on your Netflix list as well.

Posted by: Cris at March 6, 2007 2:30 PM

Heck with Netflix - for Rocky, I bought the DVD!

Posted by: Brian Ibbott at March 6, 2007 2:41 PM

The Rocky boxset is good times - use the 5th film as a coaster though!

I must be really red blooded - the Rambo boxset sits next to the Rocky one!

Posted by: Wayne from the UK at March 6, 2007 4:50 PM

I haven't seen Rocky or Rambo ! Is that cos I'm a girl? And Brian- I thought you were a metro.-explain 'Fight Club' to me.

Posted by: Rose Matthews at March 7, 2007 1:19 PM

Ha! Fight Club is as much about fighting as Deer Hunter is about hunting. It's a brilliant look into the psyche of a character who shapes his own society. I won't say it's not violent, but the violence is such a back-burner plot to the rest of the movie.

Congrats on reaching 300 episodes! Your show has gotten me through many a boring workday. My 10-year-old twin daughters LOVE Tristan, so I'll have to save this episode for them :-).

Brian, congratulations on hitting 300 episodes. Has any other podcaster even come close to this accomplishment?

Great song selections here, as always. The Fred Neil and Stevie Wonder covers are among the two strongest songs I've ever heard on this show, and there have been a LOT of songs by this point.

Keep up the great work!

Definitely not the first podcaster to crest 300 - Adam Curry is in the 500s of Daily Source Code, and Dawn and Drew are in their 500s as well.
