Hey, wow!

I've been nominated for a Blogger's Choice Award! (A big thank you to Sandra72 for nominating me) The category? Best podcast.

With such a general category, the competition will be fierce, but if you have a moment, please click the image below to go to the voting site. And if you're compelled to, please vote for my show.

I guess if I've had ANY show that featured a few adult-type words, I get the "Adult Content" badge. (thanks for that, everyone-who-covers-Radiohead's-Creep)

Incredibly touching

Thanks to Adam for sending this one in. Kind of along the same vein as the Who cover I posted yesterday.

I can't imagine that there'd be anyone who wouldn't be touched by this rendition of Coldplay's "Fix You" by Young @ Heart.

Jellyfish tribute album now on sale

The 5-song "preview" EP of the upcoming Jellyfish Tribute Album is now on sale, for $7. I've heard the preview tracks, as well as some of the tracks from the upcoming full release and this is a must buy if you're a fan of Jellyfish, or any of the splinter bands and artists that thrive in its wake.

As I understand it, the 5-song EP will have bonus versions of tracks that won't be on the final release, so it's not just a preview, it's additional material!

And I'd be promoting this even if it wasn't being sold by my buddies at Not Lame. But since it is, make sure to tell them Coverville sent you!

Click here to see more info, and listen to samples!

Just because we get around

Thanks to all the Covervillians who sent this one in:

A fun cover of the Who's "My Generation" by a band that's only slightly older than the Rolling Stones.

Experienced Wikipedia Writer Needed

The Coverville page on Wikipedia is under the notability microscope, and since I'm not experienced in writing/editing articles for Wikipedia, I'm hoping that there's a listener who can help. Specifically, the introductory paragraph needs to be rewritten in a way that makes the subject matter notable.

Please note: Coverville's notability is not in question, just the article. I've seen other articles for shows I love which resulted in a heated discussion about notability (of which I was a contributor), and I don't want to see this come to that.

Sidenote: Video Games

Judging by the number of folks who've responded to my Wii Code posting a while ago, I've noticed that there are a lot of video game fans who listen to the show. (For those of you who are old school video game fans, I just picked up a Tempest arcade machine for my basement a while ago for what I'd consider a steal).

Anyway, as a NetFlix fan, I was interested in checking out GameFly, which is basically the video game equivalent. You put a few games into your queue, and they send you the first one or two. As you finish playing a game, you send it back, and they send you the next one in your queue. It's perfect for me, since I don't get a lot of replay value out of old games, so it's cheaper in the long run.

I've set myself up as an affiliate, so if it's something you've been thinking of checking out, you can help me out by using my "friend" link, and signing up, even if you only try it out for a month. If I get a few people to try it out and stay with it for a month, I get a free Wii. (Since I've already got a Wii, I'll pass this on to my parents, who really enjoyed playing it with us a few weeks ago when they came to visit.)

No pressure - this is only something I'm asking you to do if you were planning on doing it anyway. Here's the link:

http://friends.GameFly.com/r/ae69528437fa102a919d

Thanks! (And if you haven't sent me your Wii code yet, mine is still 0902 2288 9532 6147)

Coming up on the next Boned...

The ZedCast's Bruce Murray and I were recently invited to appear as contestants on PodShow's newest game podcast, Boned!

The first episode, featuring (the cool) C.C. Chapman, and the (multi-voiced) P.W. Fenton, and starring the snarky Johnny Todd and the delightful Tanya Trivia, is available now. And the episode with Bruce and me should be coming up soon.

Be warned. With a name like Boned!, you'd expect it to be unsafe for little ears or the office. And you'd be right.

Guess the Connection III Answers & Winners

Thanks to everyone who submitted answers to the Guess The Connection III round last week. What did all those tracks have in common? They were all #1 US Billboard hits for more than one performer. And according to my sources, they are the only 6 songs that can claim that feat. (I'm not counting medleys like Stars on 45, though).

The Loco-Motion was a #1 hit for Little Eva and Grand Funk Railroad
Venus: The Shocking Blue and Bananarama
Please Mr. Postman: The Marvelettes and The Carpenters
Lady Marmalade: LaBelle and Christina Aguilera, Pink, Mya and Li'l Kim
Go Away Little Girl: Steve Lawrence and Donny Osmond
Lean on Me: Bill Withers and Club Nouveau

Congratulations to our Vakaadoo iPod Case Winners:
Sean D. from San Francisco, CA
Ryan B. from Flagstaff, AZ
Stephen K. from Cambridge, UK (make sure to check out the Ibbott Sundial if you're in the Cambridge area)
Camille I. from Dorval, Quebec
Jen Y. from Philadelphia, PA
and David L. from Washington D.C.

More trivia coming, so keep listening!

Coverville 310: The Fake Band Cover Story

Alanis' "Humps"

Wow. In the history of Coverville, no cover had netted more emails than one that hit the "tubes" just a little while ago, and I have to admit, it's a doozy: Alanis Morissette covering the Black Eyed Peas' "My Humps", complete with a video.

Alanis, I am duly impressed. After this, any time you want to come on Coverville, you've got my complete admiration:

Thanks to: T/Lloyd, Dale, Ian, Aurakill, Allison, Klaus, and both Ian R.'s (yes, two "Ian R."s pointed this out to me) for the link!
