I love Three Dog Night! What a wonderful show!
This made me think of my favorite song of theirs – Play Something Sweet (Brickyard Blues). I think it is a cover – any chance of playing the original on an upcoming show? I would also love to hear other covers – I think maybe Elvis Costello did a version?
John Farnham does a brilliant version of ‘One’ in my humble (Australian) opinion.
Just listened to the three-dog-night (un)cover story, begs the question; who was the first true “Covers” band or artist?
Was there someone before three dog night who made it big on covers, rather than their own songs?

Great show. But I think it could be “un”coverville – since Hoyt Axton wrote “Joy To the World” and “Never Been To Spain” & Randy Newman wrote “Mama Told Me Not To Come”.
After hearing Axton’s “Never Been to Spain”, I wonder if it inspired Cracker’s “Eurotrash Girl?” They sound very similar to me. Great show!!
You mentioned Elvis several times… He regularly performed Never Been To Spain in concert in the ’70s. (my hubby is a big Elvis fan, so I have to give credit to him for me knowing this trivia!)
This is now my fourth listen to this show.
A real gem!
