I just wasn’t up to doing a Valentine’s Day show last night, but this show will give you enough romantic covers for the other 364 days of the year:
“Message to My Girl” – ENZSO (originally Split Enz)
“Valentine” – The Beautiful South (originally Willie Nelson)
“My Funny Valentine” – Elvis Costello (written by Rodgers & Hart)
“My Funny Valentine” – Rufus Wainwright (written by Rodgers & Hart)
“My Funny Valentine” – Matt Damon (written by Rodgers & Hart)
“Heart” – Rockpile
“Heart” – Nick Lowe (originally Rockpile)
Thanks again for all your votes at Podcast Alley – please feel free to vote often to keep me in the top ten over there! Your support is what makes this show possible. If you’d like to cast a vote for me, you can use the link in the top right corner of this page.
Loved the show. I guess I agree that Matt Damon sang the song “in-character” as you say, but it’s not creepy. The song was from the very happy first part of the movie. Here, he’s the sensitive, talented, troubled, musical, gifted, Mr. Ripley.
Brian man. You’ve got to stop begging for votes!! This is one of the great podcasts – one of only three that I never miss. Keep doing it – people will listen and some of them might even vote.
Brian –
LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Coverville! You and I have the same taste in heroes (Costello, Squeeze, etc.) and the same love of covers. Keep up the great work, I couldn’t live with out it.
That being said…”My Funny Valentine” was on Costello’s “Taking Liberties.” Sorry, I couldn’t resist…
THANKS for the great show!
All my best –
Dan Klass

I know I said I wouldn’t write again for a while, but Dear God I need to know where the “Message to the Girl” cover can be found/bought. It’s … very important. Thanks, Michael (who loved Split Enz well before he met then married a lovely woman from the South Island)
Brian — Great show — I LOVE Coverville.
For your next Valentine extravaganza, don’t miss the numerous Miles Davis (instrumental) (the first one was on Cookin’ with the Miles Davis Quintet), and Chet Baker (vocal & instrumental) of My Funny Valentine. And if you want something really off-beat, try Miranda Sex Garden’s version.
A suggestion: you are advertising Podcasters AAC conversion abilities — why not use AAC in the first place or at least offer it as an option. The quality is noticeably better than MP3 at the same bit rate.

I was hoping you’d play Michelle Pfeiffer’s “My Funny Valentine” from the Fabulous Baker Boys, but that was already done in Coverville #24 🙂
Alex
Brian, another great Coverville show. I enjoyed the “change of Heart” with the Nick Lowe version on Nick the Nife, and the Rockpile version from Seconds of Pleasure. However, lead vocals on the Rockpile version is actually Billy Bremner, not Nick.
Keep the great covers coming. – CB
you mention Michelle Pfeiffer’s My Funny Valentine from The Fabulous Bakers boys — was on coverville #24 — I’m new to this — so How to I find #24????? I love Coverville — glad I stumbled upon it. Now tell me how I download, get it all of the time, everything!
