Brian, Brian, Brian…
For shame, for shame…
Really? A Steve Winwood Coverstory without “Higher” or “Valerie”? How could you? Well, maybe there is still hope for Bonus Tracks?
How about:
Higher Love
Release Date: 1990
Album: I’m Your Baby Tonight (Japanese CD)
Artist: Whitney Houston
Description: ‘Higher Love’ was a No. 1 hit for its songwriter Steve Winwood from his 1986 comeback album. Whitney also sang the song on her 1990 Japan Tour.
“Call on Me” is a song performed by Swedish DJ, producer Eric Prydz. “Call on Me” is a dance music track based on a re-recorded sample of Steve Winwood’s 1982 song “Valerie”. When Prydz presented the track to Winwood, he was so impressed with what Prydz had done, he collaborated with him and re-recorded the vocals to fit the track better.
Its funny – I almost included that “Call On Me” track, but it’s so on the fence whether it could be considered a true cover or not. It doesn’t include ANY of the lyrics to Winwood’s “Valerie”, besides that bit from the chorus. I’ll throw it into Bonus Tracks.
And you’re complaining I _didn’t_ include a Whitney Houston track? 🙂
Of course I’m complaining… No wait, actually you couldn;t tell I was kidding?
Actually I’ll just wait for the Whitney Houston Cover Story. Im sure it’s coming soon!
Feelin’ Alright although a great Traffic song was written and performed by Dave Mason when he was a memeber of Traffic.
Right, but I show that the song was first released on Traffic’s debut album in October 1968. Did Dave Mason release a solo version before that?
Nope…it was originally on their first album, i just always considered it a Dave Mason song. No worries : )
I always thought I knew my music until I started listening to you!!!! Coverville never ceases to enlighten me!!!! Thanks! Can’t wait for the Who Cover Story coming up soon!!!!
Fantastic – no complaints here, loved it all. A much under-rated artist and a keyboards whizz.
Coming at this a little late, but that Lulu belting out Fellin’ Alright just rocked my world. And those horns! Lordy, those horns!
