Thanks to Johan Deknudt for submitting this cover of RJD2s’ “A Beautiful Mine” as seen during the opening credits on the AMC show Mad Men. Videos Recorded Live took it one step further and included lyrics from Nat King Coles’ “Nature Boy”.
The video was was recorded in one take without cuts, dubbing, or auto-tuning. It was completed in on the 29th take.
Nat King Cole’s version is the most well-known one, but ownership of the song is with the hardcore proto-hippy eden ahbez (who didn’t capitalize his name). ahbez wrote it and published it a year before Nat King Cole recorded his version, though I don’t know if ahbez himself actually ever recorded it, or just published it as sheet music.
