They’ve announced the categories for the 2006 Podcast Awards, and the category that I won in last year has been modified. Instead of “Music/Radio”, it’s “Podsafe Music”. Because the songwriters who are covered on my show license their music with ASCAP, BMI and SESAC, my show does not feature Podsafe music.
Which category should I try to get nominated for instead? Entertainment? People’s Choice? (or is there something more appropriate?)
Nominations begin on Saturday, July 1.
(Needed to update the post title – the People’s Choice Podcast Awards is not affiliated with the Podcast and Portable Media Expo. Tim and Emile do a great job putting together a great opportunity to meet and learn from other podcasters, and any comments or opinions here shouldn’t detract from that. Thanks!)
People’s Choice, General, Entertainment and Best Produced are what come to mind; pity there aren’t definitions or boundaries. You deserve to win Brian. Keep up the great work.
Hi Brian,
Just FYI, those are the People’s Choice Awards – not the Podcast Expo awards. Although they are given out at the Expo we are not affiliated with them in any way and we have our own Awards: Podcast of the Year and Person of the Year.
Thanks!

Podcast & Portable Media Expo
I’d vote for people’s choice and best produced, since those categories get you a microphone if you win.
IMO, this little contest is nowhere near as relevant as ITunes ratings, or the fact that Coverville is a default option for broadband-connected TiVo users. Coverville is gargantuan among podcasts, and for good reason, and you don’t need some silly contest that changes its’ rules to tell you that.
Having Coverville participate in this contest would be akin to Paul McCartney auditioning to be on American Idol.
Any word on why they changed the rules so that Coverville didn’t qualify for the music category?
Coverville got my vote in People’s choice, entertainment and best produced
Good luck Brian!
ENTERTAINMENT is a good catagory and that’s where I nomitnated you
