With Alanis turning 45, and Ian Hunter of Mott the Hoople turning 80 this month, I thought it would be nice to send them a gift certificate to go to the theater together. Instead, I decided it might be better to play a set of covers for each! Enjoy! (58 minutes)

I always thought that Ready For Love was a Bad Company song; now I’ve learned it was a Mott the Hoople song first. Don’t think you can say that Bad Company covered it though as composer Mick Ralphs was a member of both bands. I guess it depends how you define a cover.
Regarding Pastel Vespa I found the site Le Monde De Pastel Vespa that is hosted on an Australian domain. The biography there is clearly satirical. The Pastel Vespa biography on last.fm names them as Fiona and John Thorn. Searching for Fiona Thorn reveals pictures indicating she is the singer. She also has a Facebook page where the About page names her home town as Melbourne.
The Bad Company cover is great, in fact, a megabit. But the Mott the Hoople original version is a grittier, emotional cry of a person who is really “ready for love”. Worth a listen. David Bowie on sax, too.

Pastel Vespa is the alter ego of Fiona Thorn.
