Ummm….I haven’t listened to yer podcast (yet) so I dunno if you mention this, but I can tell you that Santana’s “original” version of Black Magic Woman was a cover of Fleetwood Mac. A great cover, I’ll grant you, but a cover nonetheless……
I knew you’d LOVE “Lithium” Brian!!
I have been similarly playing this constantly since I got an advance copy of the EP last week. Awesome cover!!
I’m so glad too that you and Tina had a blast with Tim on the tour bus. He is a really nice guy.
Happy to get you together – bring on The Fragile Army!!
Sorry, crilo, but you might be confusing this with Fleetwood Mac’s Gold Dust Woman, a totally different gal.
My mistake. Black Magic Woman was first done by Fleetwood Mac back in 1969 on their English Rose album… (covered by Santana in 1972)
S’OK. The original, great, bluesy F Mac is so unfortunately forgotten in the face of the juggernaut that was the subsequent, also great, Cali-rock F Mac; not to mention that Santana so thoroughly made the song their own when they covered it. Consequently lotsa folks misascribe BMW’s origins. Maybe some time you could feature the Rezillos’ (pioneering Scottish punk-pop band) cover of (the original, great, bluesy) F Mac’s Someone’s Gonna Get Their Head Kicked In Tonight.
You have a fine show, by the way…..
Cheers!
I would have sworn on a stack of Costello albums that “I Want You Back” was on The Real Macaw” and not “Sparks.” I’ll have to dig out my old (original?) CD and see. Maybe it was a bonus CD track that got moved? I don’t know.
