Yet another All Request Sunday. Hey, you keep making requests, and I’ll keep playing them. And when you make a request, please let me know where you’re from!
Tonight you’ll hear the following (links included where available):
Badly Drawn Boy – “The Further I Slide”
Fine Young Cannibals – “Suspicious Minds”
Lou Barlow and Friends – “Run To You”
Gypsy Kings – “Hotel California”
Another fine show, including two of my all-time favorite covers (Hotel California and Blue Moon Revisited).
One nit to pick, though. You say there are no contractions in the Lou Barlow number, but it’s loaded with one particular contraction, repeated over and over again: I’m going to run to you.
Also, wasn’t that the singer from Bronski Beat hitting those ear-rattling high notes in Suspicious Minds?
Blogcritics has just submitted some requests for next Sunday without realizing it…

Yes, that’s Jimmy Somerville of the Bronski Beat singing backup on Suspicious Minds.
Like that of FYC’s Roland Gift, Somerville’s voice is unmistakable.
Haha bibbott! I noticed the same thing, I thought it would be harder to find a contraction but that was repeated over and over 🙂
Hey Brian, love the show. I have always had a passion of scouring the web for fun covers and now you broadcast them straight me. You mentioned a Spice Girls cover show (you might have been joking 😉 I would like to suggest/request “wannabe” by Zebrahead. They are a great rap/rock group from Orange County that always work a cover or two into their shows where they audience tries to unsuccessfully stump them with often cheesy cover requests. They actually recorded Wannabe and offer if as a free download on their site at http://www.zebrahead.tv
There’s an interesting cover of Cher’s Believe over at Said the Gramophone: http://www.tangmonkey.com/blogs/music/archives/000378.php
Reel Reviews is going to feature Mulholland Drive soon, and I liked the renditon of Roy Orbison’s Crying, but I don’t have a legal copy yet. It’s called Llorando.
(I liked the Cowboy Junkies rendition, thanks.)
Oh and Jem does a cover of Maybe I’m Amazed that I heard at Womenfolk: http://thenewpink.net/womenfolk/2004/12/cover-girls-vol-6.html
Love the Fine Young Cannibals track. That was awesome!
