I found a link for Chinese Democracy on Wikipedia – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_Democracy
Tori Amos released a box set of bootlegs a couple of months ago, which had some covers on it including livin on a prayer, total eclipse of the heart, and like a prayer.
According to wikipedia, she’s coming out with a new cd sometime next year
“A New England” double bill and NO KIRSTY MacCOLL??? Brian, why?!? Even Billy sings ‘her verses’ live now!
*winks*

The Hem cover was a real delight – thanks for that one. They have a pretty cool story, too. You can see the bio at their wikipedia entry, but they’ve gotten a lot of visibility from appearing in a very elegant advertisement for (of all things) Liberty Mutual insurance. Also, at least one or maybe two of the members are Carleton graduates, which I have to throw in, as an alumnus.
Brian, either your Macor my i-pod has a problem or that Groovy Ghoulies singer was completely out of tune. Truly one of the worst covers of all time IMO!
Your caller is mistaken. “Trust in Me” is not on Stay Awake, by Tanya Donnelly or anyone else. Belly released a cover on the CD single for their first hit, “Feed the Tree.”
Hey, Brian…I hate to pick nits — wait, no I don’t! One of your callers said that “Feeling Good” was originally performed by Nina Simone. Well, even Nina’s version was a cover. The song comes from a 1965 Broadway musical called “The Roar Of The Greasepaint, The Smell Of The Crowd” and was composed by Anthony Newley and Leslie Bricusse. This means, I suppose, that the original version is the one on the original cast recording, sung by Gilbert Price; anything else is a cover. This includes not only Nina but Sammy Davis, Jr., Michael Buble, and even Stevie Wonder in a really cool live version found on his “Complete Stevie Wonder – Additional Singles & Rarities” box set. You can preview it in iTunes — a great uptempo gospel-ish feel! Anyway, I thought you might enjoy this bit of minutiae. (Oh, and I was in a high school production of “Roar Of The Greasepaint” a looooong time ago…)
Way to go on the Hem song. I have been meaning to request South Central Rain as a cover (hint, hint). But any Hem exposure is fine with me. 🙂
The Muse cover was superb, as was the cover of all the young dudes.
Cheers,
Grant
