Allison Crowe’s “Halleluja” only 25?
Surely this should have served to be higher. Maybe if it had been played on Coverville…so many requests…so little airplay!!
Adrian, Ian, any thoughts?
I meant to type deserved.
Still nothing on i-tunes from part 1 or 2…
First year for buzz about Allison. Expect that she will stay on the list for next year, probably higher, and perhaps with a different cover.
iTunes Canada has a lot of Allison’s catalog, including specifically the complete Tidings album. Also has JC’s Redemption Song from Unearthed (a great box set).
BTW, those are two of my 5 picks for the list. Will see how the rest fare as the list proceeds.
Merry christmas and a happy new year to you Brian and your family. It’s always a treat when a new Coverville shows up and I hope you will continue making the show for a long time.
Merry Christmas, indeed, Brian, Tina, Tristan and all near and dear. And, holiday wishes to you, Wayne, and Ian and all your loved ones. To all in the Coverville community – be it Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, Solstice, or anything else you celebrate – here’s wishing you peace, joy and the best of health now and throughout the coming New Year!!
I’m just down from the mountain (Whistler, B.C. Canada). Traditionally, Allison (Crowe)’s concert year ends in mid-December, but this year, there were shows on Christmas eve and Christmas Day – and it was a wonderful time. Really beautiful.
I’m home now, and delighted to find Allison’s Hallelujah cover in the 2006 Coverville Countdown. It’s a joy and honour, and, I’ve no doubt Alley will feel the same when she returns home and is back online.
It’s been wonderful that her recordings have been discovered by an ever-growing audience, and thanks to Coverville. We’re thrilled that her versions of Hallelujah, River (Joni Mitchell) and In My Life (Beatles) have reached people here.
A newspaper reporter, covering one of Allison’s Tidings concerts this month, wrote: “In an entertainment world that increasingly genuflects at the altar of instant fame, Crowe seems an anomaly, building her career slowly and carefully.”
It seems to me that’s how everything happens organically. With time. Thank you all for listening, and for caring.
Happy Holidays Brian, the Ibbott, and all Covervillians!
However, the little factoid Brian gave out regarding the original use of “Mahna Mahna” has ruined the song for me forever! 🙂
Regarding “Hallelujah,” it is a very strong version.
Still, given that “Covers of ‘Hallelujah'” is practically it’s own genre (almost meritting its own podcast), having some sprinkled throughout the top fourty is not surprising.
(that was supposed to be the “Ibbott Family,” but y’all probably figured that one out on your own.)
The cover of Crazy – incredibly cool and combines two of my 2006 discoveries (I am probably behind millions of people in that respect, a bit slow!). How on earth can I buy the song – I know you mention that it is unreleased and I cannot for the life of me find a source on-line.
Keep up the stunning work.
Cheers and best wishes for 2007
