I wonder if anyone’s ever done John Cale’s “Paris 1919”? Although you have played covers of “Louisiana 1927” before. And there are great covers of RT’s “1952 Vincent Black Lightning” by Mary Lou Lord and others.
Anyone ever cover Mission of Burma’s “1970”?

For this one, I was just concentrating on songs whose title was a year only. For the next one, if I can find a cover of “In The Year 2525”, I’ll include it, along with things like “December 1963 (Oh What A Night)”, and others mentioned above!

Great idea Brian! IMO, 1985 was the epicentre of the best music of the 80’s and since then, so the Richard Thompson cover made me smile a lot.
Just on the Tina Turner cover, the guys who actually helped out Tina on “1984” and a couple of other tracks from this album were Greg Walsh, Martyn Ware and Glenn Gregory, otherwise known as Heaven 17. It was the top selling album of 1985 and featured other covers “Help” (The Beatles of course), “Steel Claw” (Paul Brady), “Let’s Stay Together” (Al Green) and “I can’t stand the rain” (Ann Peebles).
Great album, though I agree on 1984.
I actually like the Tina Turner cover a lot–and I think the Heaven 17 connection is part of the reason. They did a very good job on the Ball of Confusion and Let’s Stay Together covers (which was used to help draw new attention to Tina and directly led to the Private Dancer record).
I did not know that Steel Claw was a cover! Now I need to go find the original somewhere.
