Thank you very much for playing Jim’s Big Ego. In the late 90s, I would always play that song right before I left the office in the evening. It was my way to say “Good-bye” to all my co-workers.
Usually, I don’t like songs with “rap interludes” within them, but this one really grew on me.
The only problem with listening at work: I can’t rush out to iTunes to buy, say, Gail Sawon’s “Locomotive Breath.”
Once again, thanks for a great show and introducing me to cool stuff.
thanks for playing my request
buying Gail Swanson’s album on emusic now
LOVED the Duran Duran cover. So cool. Same for the Carter USM cover, which I had never heard, even though i am from the UK and had a mate who was a fan. And it takes a guy from Wichita to turn me onto it.
Ah, Coverville! 🙂
Hey Brian!
Totally great show; I especially enjoyed the Leo Kottke song…
Also, be sure and thank Uncle George. He has pretty good taste… I don’t know that I’ve ever heard any covers of Jethro Tull songs, but then to come up with one where the band has the nerve (gall?) to include a flute in the arrangement – that was just great.
(Granted, it’s not as surprising as Will Ferrell’s playing jazz flute on his rendition of the end of Aqualung in the movie “Anchorman”… hee hee!)
Just fantastic…
Thank you!
Hey, thanks for playing my request. I may be sending you my bands album soon for your other show, the not lame podcast. that’s for indie bands right? well, we have yet to record a cover. we’ve thought about doing The Boomtown Rats song Like Clockwork…anyhoo. keep up the good work.
The Carter USM cover of Rent has been one of my favorites for years. I bought it in the early 1990s as a b-side to the CD single of Rubbish and I bought it just for Rent. They also do a great cover of The Smiths’ Panic, which is a b-side to The Only Living Boy in New Cross.
A question for anyone familiar with the Carter version of Rent: where does the sample of “we’re having FISH tonight” come from?
The quote “How do you like me, boiled or fried? Tonight we’re having fish” is from an episode of the 80’s version of Thundercats cartoon in the closing segment – http://thundercats.wikia.com/wiki/Dr._Dometone_%28episode%29
