The Dolphins won the superbowl in 1972, 17-0, the regular season was shorter then
Uh-oh…here comes the flood of emails!
Shows you how much I know about football. I could have sworn that there was some aspect of the (potential) Patriots win that would have broken a record.
Another Groundhog’s Day, another Toxic cover. I love it. 🙂
If the Pats had won they would have been the first team to win 19 games in an undefeated season. As it is, they still are first team to win 18 games in a season. All of course because of the longer season.
As a Miami Fan my heart dropped through the floor when you made that statement on the podcast, Brian! The record the Pats set was for first team to not complete a game, as they decided to all leave with time still on the clock.
The Dolphins are still the only team to go UNDEFEATED and ALL THE WAY!
great show
one minor correction- the original Alanis song is called hand in pocket, the dino martinis changed the title slightly
Actually, there are (at least) two other teams that have won at least 18 games — the 1984 49ers and the 1985 Bears. Both finished 18-1.
But the Patriots’ one loss occurred in the Super Bowl, and that’s the difference.
I have just read that Rolf Harris did a cover of “hand in my pocket” in 1997.
Brian, that is your mission, should you decide to accept it – obtain and play that cover!
This message will self destruct in 10 seconds.
About Rolf Harris – I was disappointed he didn’t make the Australia Coverville – you could make it an originalville with him singing his Sun Arise (Which Alice Cooper played on “Love It To Death.”) He also covers Stairway To Heaven, but that’s a bit overplayed.
Anyway, as one who won a lot of money in 1972 betting on the Dolphins, I was surprised to hear you say that the Pats would’ve been the first undefeated team. I lived in Washington DC and the Skins fans couldn’t find anyone to take the Dolphis! I didn’t even have to give up points!
