I didn’t feel like paying an additional $11.00 for internet access at the hotel last night, when I knew that we’d have free access today, so there was a bit of delay in posting last night’s show – but it’s be just in time for your weekend! Here’s what spun up on the Coverville slots:
“Can’t Help Falling in Love” – Eels (popularized by Elvis Presley)
“Heartbreak Hotel” – John Cale (originally by Elvis Presley)
“Show Biz Kids” – Rickie Lee Jones (originally Steely Dan)
“Do It Again” – Smashmouth (originally Steely Dan)
“Are You Lonesome Tonight (live)” – Elvis Presley
“Viva Las Vegas” – Bruce Springsteen (originally Elvis Presley)

Very nice show! iPodderX pulled it down just in time for me to listen to as I finished packing for my trip to Vegas. Perfect timing. And with that, I’m off to the airport.
Viva Las Vegas!

Quite a variety.
I was listening to a radio station from overseas and they plaed the original song Fade Into You by Mazzy Star I looked it up and found that a cover version of this song is on the album Causing A Catastrophe – Live by Flickerstick.
It would be great to hear it on your show
Brian,
I just finished listening to your Vegas show, great as usual. I was hoping you were going to play Bruce’s version of Viva Las Vegas and you did, but I just wanted to let you know that was originally on a compilation album called “The Last Temptation of Elvis” (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0001ZUZS6/103-3085613-1883835?v=glance) about 15 years ago. Great stuff, check it out if you get a chance!
I’m not surprized by your experience trying to hand out stuff in Las Vegas. I walked up and down the strip when I was there recently and was overwhelmed by people trying to hand me cards and sex catalogs. The cards were for something like “Girls-Direct-to-Your-Room” and I must have had 50 or 60 offered to me over two days. After about 30 minutes I realized the only people trying to talk to me were either just plain nuts or being paid to hand me a phone number for prostitutes.
The Elvis song you played, “Are You Lonesome Tonight,” is, in fact, a cover. The original was by the Ink Spots (I think) – and this song is the only one ever suggested for Elvis to record by Col. Tom Parker.
