Going back in time 30 years to July 6, 1980 and the Billboard Hot 100 hits of that day. But, you know, in cover form. Because that’s how I roll.

Cool theme!
kind of a neat theme, I was expected at least a little bit of channeling casey kasem however
cool theme – I have the 7 inch single of Funkytown upstairs along with other hits of that year (inherited my sisters record collection).
Because I am an 80's hound and music nerd, it might interest people to see what were the top 8 singles in the UK in early July 1980.
1. Olivia Newton-John & Electric Light Orchestra -Xanadu
2. Don McLean – Crying
3. Lipps Inc – Funky Town
4. Odyssey – Use It Up And Wear It Out
5. Stacy Lattisaw -Jump To The Beat
6. The Korgis- Everybody's Got To Learn Sometime
7. Roberta Flack & Donny HathawayBack Together Again
8. UB40- My Way Of Thinking / I Think It's Going To Rain
I absolutely LOVE the concept and hope you do his VERY often! It's a cool idea thar could make for some fascinating shows. That said I found this one disappointing for two reasons:
1) 7 of the 8 covers were excruciatingly bad….only the Lipps Inc was even listenable. But more iportantly…
2) Missed opportunity….especially given the Casey Kasem reference at the beginning. Not sure if you knew this Brian but if you'd gone back ten more years and done 1970 instead you would've been doing double duty by celebrating the 40th anniversary of American Top 40. Th initial show was July 4, 1970. And it was a much, much better Top 8 that week. 😉
Anyway, love the idea Brian – keep using this theme!
Really enjoyed this and hope you do it more often. I wonder, though, if I liked it because I know all the songs and they take me back to my high school/college days when I still listened to the radio. Would I enjoy it as much if you did something from the last few years when I know very little of the music that makes Top 10 lists?
I liked this, great idea.
I have to say, though, I was in college during that time, and listened to the radio constantly, and have never ever heard that last song, "Coming Up", before. I don't believe it was ever a hit.
Oh, I also meant to mention, nobody does duets better than Willie Nelson. I think he could sing a duet with me and it would sound great. There's something about his voice that is just perfect for singing with others.
Just another thing – a Bob Seger cover story would be great!
WOW. Love the concept. This brought back a lot of memories. Thanks. I hope to see more!
