Ohmygosh…. Steely Dan always comes up in my house as well – I can stand it, but it is definatly the hubbys Thing.
Wow! Proves that Teenage Dirtbag was not an accident. Scala maybe the first full album I buy based on listening to Coverville.
Dear Brian and Tina,
Thanks again for another great show. I’ve been listening for a few years now, but never commented before, and figured it’s about time. I loved all the Scala and Kolacny Brothers, and will tell my Belgian friends here in Rwanda where I live.
I do think you missed a few subtle, very well-placed cues from Christian Buddhist (whom I also think is awesome). His intro song was the Clash’s “Know Your Rights,” which starts with the self-referential, “This is a public service announcement, with guitar!!” It ends with the Clash’s “This is Radio Clash,” again with the self-referential refrain, “This is Radio Clash, coming in from pirate satellite.” In fact, this is how Christian Buddhist signed off as well. I will be the first to admit that I completely understand your missing these, but thought you might be interested in the clever design of Christian Buddhist.
Keep making the wonderful shows, I hope you never tire of it. I know it’s really difficult to keep doing something like this, but your longevity is astounding. I think if I could hear a cover theme show, I would always opt for more Tom Waits, Neil Young, or The Clash, or perhaps a cover-by-cover version of the soundtrack to Pulp Fiction.
Thanks again, and good luck.
This was an awesome show.
Loved the Scala selections. I had forgotten about them from the numerous year end shows I have listened to.
The Kansas/Rush medley was amazing. I’ve enjoyed bluegrass since high school, thanks to the influence of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Candlewyck did a great job with the piece. I played it for a friend on her Bose iPod speakers and the bass came through and topped off the song.
I also recommended my sister listen to this show as well… She gave it a thumbs up.
Another self referential song: Prince – 1999:
I was dreamin’ when I wrote this
Forgive me if it goes astray
Thanks for the Scala songs. I normally listen to coverville on the busride to work while reading a book. Couldn’t concentrate on reading while scala was singing. Thanks.
Bibbs! Dude, I had never heard of Scala and Kolacny before this show. Love them! Thanks for introducing them to me! –Matt
I love, love, LOVED the Kansas/Rush medley! I would never have thought to put those songs together, but it was brilliant. Well worth the price of admission right there. Keep up the great work!
