By request, covers of Marvin Gaye, The Stones, and a very odd Belinda Carlisle cover! All this, Tina and trivia too, coming up on tonight’s Coverville.

Who knew that Alvin and the Chipmunks could sing in Japanese? That is a heck of an achievement for a bunch of imaginary rodents. Do you think there might be an Alvin and the Chipmunks version of 99 Luftballoons in German? Get on that right away!
What I don’t understand about Vocaloids is why many of the songs that include them are credited to the Vocaloid itself. It’s just a software instrument that someone plays, right? So crediting this to Hatsune Miku is like crediting a song to Fender Rhodes.
Even more bizarre, Vocaloid fans have ascribed personalities and back-stories to the different voices, and pretend to be able to predict what kinds of songs they would be willing to perform.
Glen Phillips needs to cover Ghostbusters in the same style as the Huey Lewis cover.
Funny, but the only song on the quiz I knew both title & artist was the Peter Gabriel song, from that GREAT, GREAT third album which is proban.
BTW, I loved almost every song, tho that Vocaloid one, not so much.
I would dispute, however, that Grapevine is a Marvin Gaye cover, though the Bluehouse version certainly borrows from his. Gladys Knight & the Pips charted months before Marvin.
The Glen Phillips link shows all the songs unavailable. Do you know of an alternate source?

I just looked at the comments on this show, so I hope you’re checking back. You can pick up Mr. Lemmons at Glen’s Bandcamp site at http://glenphillips.bandcamp.com/album/mr-lemons.
Hope that helps,

When I was listening and heard it was the last all-request show of the year, I was bummed that I had send you the Bluehouse song but had not requested you play it. Then, I heard those opening notes and got *so* excited. Thanks for playing it. You made my day, Brian. 🙂
That Vocaloid sounds remarkably like Animal Crossing’s K.K. Slider.
Vocaloid cover made me laugh and smile. No Alvin and the Chupmunks covers for me.
