Any covers out there of U2s Stay (Faraway So Close)? Maybe for the Stay Bonus Tracks for Coverville Citizens.
Brian, I love the idea of of doing more shows like this. The concept has rattled around in my head ever since I first discovered those “The Song Retains the Name” Zeppelin cover albums (and probably because of Musically Challenged, too). I look forward to seeing what song titles you come up with!
Great episode, Brian!
But I bet you knew I was going to say that.
I lookid through my iPod for Stay songs when I was listening to this and only found one. “Stay” by Back Door Slam. I know I have “Stay” by Alison Krauss & Union Station at home (at work now). Great show.
Great episode. I love the concept but have no idea how many of them you could actually do. I know in the 90s there was a period where 3 unrelated songs by the name “Creep” were on the charts: Radiohead, TLC, and Stone Temple Pilots. I doubt you could make a full episode out of that.
Hey Brian, Just listened to the show today. Your little mention of JR from Valencia reminded me how back in the day (about 20 years ago!) we used to work together and he would have a catalog of his music collection on our server (read: mainframe). It was a database he created and anyone could type in a word or phrase and he would make you a most excellent mix tape! Yeah, this episode was totally him.
Well, now, you’ve just messed with my mind. I can remember when Stay was on the charts back in the way back when. I would have sworn it was the 4 Seasons version I heard first, but now, chasing down Maurice Williams & the Zodiacs, that’s the version that clicks. A little slower than the 4 Seasons’ version, which otherwise seems to be pretty much a ripoff of the Zodiacs’ version. So…how come James Taylor hasn’t done a version. It would seem to be a natural for his “slow it down and re-imagine it” schtick.
