NBC is getting ready to air a brand new season of “The Sing-Off”, a reality competition featuring a cappella groups, and co-hosted by long-time favorite of mine, Ben Folds. I liked this show a lot last year, because not only did it feature covers, but also encouraged the groups to work on changing the arrangements of the songs. This season, a few bands that you’ve heard (or heard about) on Coverville will be competing:

First up is On The Rocks, whose cover of Lady Gaga’s “Bad Romance” is a viral favorite:

Next up, Jerry Lawson & Talk Of The Town, whose “River Of Dreams” was featured on the Billy Joel Cover Story. Jerry was a member of The Persuasions, whose covers of U2 and Frank Zappa have also been featured right here on the show. I’ll be rooting for these guys for sure.

Finally, the Whiffenpoofs of Yale, who themselves haven’t been featured on Coverville, but one of their more famous alumni has: Jonathan Coulton, who was a Whiffenpoof in 1993 is no stranger to these parts. Could an a cappella cover of “Code Monkey” be a possibility? Maybe, but not likely.

Here’s a preview of the show:
