The new Vibez mp3 player from TrekStor has most of the same bells and whistles as every other mp3 player on the market these days…except one. According to the New York Times, the Vibez can generate “playlists based on variables like the number of times played, and has a ‘cover version’ feature that finds songs re-recorded by other artists”.
The article didn’t elaborate too much, but does that require you to have two songs with the same title in order for it to work? What about song titles like “Stay”, that have been done in numerous original versions by multiple bands? And of course the big question: “Layla” by Derek and the Dominoes vs. “Layla” by Eric Clapton… cover or no?
Whoa – it does crossfades between tracks. Are you listening, Apple?
Hmm, I like the idea of the cross-fading. To echo you, listen-up Apple! And the cover version is pretty cool too, but keep in mind that iTunes has some pretty nifty features regarding creating playlists according to the number of times, and dates played, as well as how often, and when a song has been skipped. The rating feature is nice too.
At least we’ve got a contender in the ring, on some moves.
Oh, don’t get me wrong – I think toppling the interface and style of the iPod is too much of a task for this player – but there’s at least one feature I’d love to see in the new iPod (or iPhone, for that matter), and maybe two, if the ‘cover version’ feature is executed correctly.
You got a freebie of this too Brian? 🙂
The name has me LMAO – the Vibez?
Sounds like one “for the ladies”…
On a similar line, not that I am looking to score one, but there is a vibrator attachment for the i-pod

Apparently Apple are after them. Warning, website not suitable for children.
Brian, I asked about this feature over here

and it turns out the Vibez looks for the “original artist” tag in the audio file to find covers. So, you have to make sure your files are accurately tagged for this feature to work.
