Results of last week’s battle: Who did it better? The Hollies or Ben E. King?
Another week, another request for a Who Did It Better, and this one comes from Nick in Australia. Two versions of Portishead’s “Glory Box” () starting with a soulful rendition by John Martyn (), followed by a more retro version by Kram (no iTunes link).
Which version is like lookin’ at a different picture through this new frame of mind?

RE "Springsteen purists": Most of the "neither" votes are probably just that however mine was the opposite. They both still sounded too much like Springsteen whose sound I don't care for.
Hey Brian, funny you should mention that "Glory Box" sounds a lot like "Daydream" – I think I remember someone telling me both of these songs were originally taken from the song "Daydream" by the Günther Kallman Choir back in the 70s… not sure?
Ah hang on – just googled it. The "I Monster" version of Daydream samples the vocals from the Günther Kallman version, as well as the bassline from Glory Box.
I like Faith No More's live version.
