Results of last week’s battle: Who did it better? Heaven 17 w/Elly Jackson of La Roux or The Dead Science?
How about a “Lost In Translation”-esque battle for Who Did It Better? Listener Dan Cassidy suggested a couple covers of the Smiths’ terrific “What Difference Does it Make?”, and I think it’s going to shape up to be a great battle. First up, a rockabilly version by Nashville’s Bobby bare Jr., performing with the Young Criminals’ Starvation League, followed by England band The Ukrainans, injecting their trademark style into the tune.

Thanks for playing these versions. Both bring out different aspects of the original. I had to push for The Ukrainians for sheer danceability. Keep up the good work.
Please do not countrify my Smiths….*shudder*

You were right the first time: http://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/city.html?n=367 Ukraine is 9 time zones away from Colorado, traveling east across the Atlantic. Going via the Pacific, it’d be 15 time zones.
Thanks for playing these Brian. It just goes to show that you can have two extremely different yet both good, covers of a great song. I voted for the Ukrainians because I love to hear those Balalaikas ring in out!
I thought the song sounded familiar in some way, yett the text is a bit off. I have never heared the originl before, so it was a bit strange. I did some searching, and found out that the main theme of the TV show “Charmed” featured a cover of the song by “Love Spit Love”. Seems you learn new things just by listening to Coverville. Oh and those crazy Ukranians were fantastic.
Of the two here, I preferred the Ukrainians. My favorite version that I’ve heard so far, though is by Mr. T Experience on Milk Milk Lemonade, released in 1992 on Lookout! Records.
