Hey Brian,
I’m a big fan of the show and have always liked cover music, first CDs I ever burned were songs followed by their covers and parodies. (I still have 8 different version of “Ring of Fire” on my mp3 player.) but didn’t you say about 4 or 5 shows back that you were going to be doing some more rock stuff, well where is it? I really recommend Authority Zero’s cover of “Mexican Radio” on their second CD, Andiamo, which would’ve been perfect for a cinco de mayo show but too late now. anyways, Awesome show, but I listen to this while I’m at work before the store opens and I need some rock to get me going. oh, and since you’ve been asking, I’m from W. Palm Beach, Florida, where the old come to die and no one knows how to vote.
Great to hear The Replacements. You just can’t go wrong with a little Westerberg in the mix. Thanks for another great show, Pinata Massengil!
Louis Armstrong did a wonderful version of “Bibbity bobbity boo”. He’s not your usual style of covering artist… but he’s Louis Armstrong.
Incidentally, the classic rock station here in DC (http://www.947thearrow.com/index.shtml) is doing a “Cool cover” weekend. I think somebody there knows about coverville.
Very nice collection you’ve got here this time around, although when I comes to Disney covers, I’m always partial to Tom Waits’ version of “Heigh Ho.” Leave it to Waits to take a happy, hurrah-for-work song and turn it into a dystopian, kafkaesque nightmare of a song. It’s so delightfully creepy…
Hey Brian:
Great show! Ever hear the Big Bad Voodoo Daddy version of “I Wanna Be Like You?” It’s off the Swingers soundtrack. It’s so money, baby!
