“First” Bacharach/David is tricky. Trains was by early Beatles contemporary Billy J. Kramer in 1964.
I Just Don’t Know was recorded by Check Jackson in ’62, but it did not chart; Tommy Hunt in ’64 wasn’t much more successful. Oddly Dusty didn’t chart in the US because the record company picked another tune.
Always Something by Lou Johnson. Nope, don’t know any of these except Kramer.
The one I DO know was Richard Chamberlain, who was Dr. Kildare on TV, who recorded it in ’63. The B-side, Blue Guitar, went to #42, but the A-side stiffed.
