Great show. Thanks for a version of one of my all time favorites in “1952” that I hadn’t heard.
I can’t get coverville using itunes. I wrote to them but, it hasn’t been fixed. Thought you’d like to know.
Love the show (so does my wife :-).
Hal
What a great start to the show. I have 3 versions of Richard Thompson doing this, and I think the one you chose is the best. He play’s with the song everytime he performs it.
Thought you were going to play a cover that I had never had until I pulled up the show notes.
Great show as usual.
I did a double take when I heard Robert Earl Keen on this show.
Couldn’t figure out if I had accidentally started playing my own favorite play list.
Thanks for the surprise,
Douglas
FYI, your site showed up today in the “Daily Picks” section on my “My Yahoo” page.

Saw this cd in a used cd store last night — “HOW MANY BANDS DOES IT TAKE TO SCREW UP A BLONDIE TRIBUTE?” (Sympathy for the Record Industry)
This cd would have been perfect for this podcast.
You are doing great work.
Cheers!

Very enjoyable show, a few nits to pick.
1) Love the Richard Thompson song, though it’s not a cover. You might consider Del McCoury’s lovely bluegrass cover.
2) “Fourth of July” was written by Dave Alvin, not Dave Alvin and X. It was first performed by X though, when Dave Alvin had joined the band (after Billy Zoom left). Exene was married to John Doe, not Billy Zoom, and they were long, long divorced before this song was recorded.
3) Don’t know if you’ve gotten to this one yet, but Nina Gordon (from Veruca Salt) does an amazing acoustic version of NWA’s “Straight Outta Compton”, available for download here:

Hi Funklord,
Glad you enjoyed the show!
Every Sunday, I pick a song that’s not a cover, and play it on the show. Listeners cannot live on covers alone! I call it the Uncovered Gem of the Week, and sometimes it’s a song that has been covered by other artists, sometimes not. (The “uncovered” simply means that I uncovered in my library of music).
Thanks for the corrections on Dave Alvin and X – you’re absolutely right!
Look for the Nina Gordon track on an upcoming show that features cover versions of rap songs. Maybe July 21st, or 28th.
Thanks for listening!
Brian
