By the way…near the beginning of the show, I say “defines explanation”. I am fully aware that the term is “defies explanation”. I have no idea why I said that, but I promise to stop taking those three-martini lunches from now on.
Ha, finally you had a reason to play stayin alive by ozzy osbourne 🙂
Great show. I have a version of Ozzy “Stayin Alive” with Dweezil Zappa playing guitar. The recording sucks but it is stripped down and “meatier.”

Great show. I suspect a lot of guys wished they could be Tony Manero in the 70’s. Damn you Eyebott, I’m probably going to have to watch the movie tonight now! 🙂
I was searching for any covers of SNF songs by John Travolta, but I couldn’t find any in his “distinguished” recording career. Does anyone know of any?
There is a Dweezil Zappa recording from his “Confessions” with Donnie Osmond does the singing on that version. There’s also a Beatles cover of “Anytime at all”. It’s been at least 15 years since I’ve listened to them, but I remember them being pretty decent.. I’ll have to break out the cassette!

Thanks for the shout-out on your podcast today. Fun to hear my name. I am trying to get my name mentioned on all of the podcasts I listen to. So far, I have succeeded on only a few (yours and The Daily Giz Wiz)
There’s a Judybats (“Being Simple”) cover of “Jive Talkin'” on their Full Empty album circa ’94. If you like the original, it’s a fun guitar-driven cover.
I was actually kind of disappointed with this episode. When I heard there would be an episode dedicated to SNF, I thought it would be a “cover to cover” episode, but alas it was not and only a very small selection of the soundtrack got the cover treatment. Other than If I Can’t Have You, which is a great song and a pretty hard one to do a bad cover in my opinion, the rest of the selection was pretty lacking.
Any chance the rest of the tracks could get Coverville treatment in the future — at least those that have covers — I’m sure you can find something for Disco Inferno, More Than a Woman (which is already covered on the SNF soundtrack for goodness sake), Boogie Shoes, How Deep Is Your Love, and Open Sesame. Even if the instrumental covers were missed, there’s plenty more great vocal tracks from the soundtrack that were missing much to my disappointment.
I’m not sure if the Disco Duck comment was entirely clear (or maybe I just missed it). Disco Duck was in the movie, but was never in the the soundtrack. In many of the home releases, it was pulled from the movie and replaced with some generic backing music. On recent DVD releases, it was added back in. Then again, Jive Talkin’ wasn’t in the movie and was on the soundtrack.
I’ll be waiting for part II, Brian!
Adam,
I held back primarily because I’d done an all-Bee Gees show just a month earlier (bad timing, I know), and I didn’t want to overdo it. I’ll plan a few more for a “Part II” sometime (which will feature no music from the SNF sequel, “Stayin’ Alive”…)
Just listened to this one today. The version I have of Stayin’ Alive is also a pure hard rock song. I did not like this remix.
