How about a cover story featuring a band that (for me, anyway) defined the look and the sound of the 80’s, in honor of the 50th birthday of Joanne Catherall, one of the bands two lead female vocalists. (66 minutes)

I really enjoyed this episode, which probably means I’m just plain old.
It reminded me of the wonder of the single, because the original 45 ( on glorious green vinyl) of Rock and Roll is terrific especially as it does not segue into the less listenable Iggy Pop cover. It is also amazing that it was really only a couple of years between the original and the cover but the sensibility has changed immeasurably.
Another highlight (gasp) was Rick Springfield sounding almost like Peter Gabriel! It’s great he is still out there. His bandmate from his days in The Zoot, Darryl Cotton died in July this year, which was very sad. I’ll have to check if Brian has ever played their amazingly over the top version of Eleanor Rigby.
I’d never heard Iva Davies and Icehouse do Being Boiled pretty much as Human League would have done it if they had the money to do it properly. That was great too.
Sebastien Charlier. Wow. Taking 80s synth pop and stealing what little soul it had to begin with.
