And I’m struggling with the lack of bandwidth at my brother-in-law’s house! I’ll post more when we get back to Denver. But for now…

Hey Brian, it says "Supertamp" in the header, you might want to fix this! 🙂
And did you realize that there still is an old coverville.com/idol page?
Wow…that deadline sure snuck up fast! I was planning to enter, but oh well, there's always a next time…which is a good thing considering I hadn't even started recording yet! 🙂
I had thought Brian should have just been brutal with his selections and picked one version of each song and make a neat cover album. That's fine when there is only one entry per track. Also fine if there's a stand out like Black and Blue's Take the Long Way Home and Etgilles' Lord is it Mine.
But the Breakfast in America tracks prove me wrong because they're are all really great in their own way. If pressured I would have picked Theresa Miller's for being over the top gorgeous but James Ghofolpo's power pop version was great, Brecht Fist and Amy Rica (who are they really?) bounced along with great aplomb, Christof was so cool and Tim Snyder was spooky and effective. Beth's track was seriously strange too, especially as the "birds in the trees" from the Logical Song seemed to have landed in her version of Breakfast and the harmonies she worked out were really dark and ominous. Brian could do a whole episode of Coverville just on the title track.
Oh and the cover art from Shelby is spectacular.
I agree Geoff – some of those covers were REALLY good and the album art was spectacular. Shelby, you are one seriously cool dude!
We just need some other cool dudes or dudessess to finish off this album completely.
"Lick my love pump" later in the year? 🙂
I was blown away by these cover versions. A lot of them were haunting and atmospheric and they really flow well together. Brian, this is so much better than the original concept of "Coverville Idol" and you really need to make this a regular feature of Coverville. Maybe you could talk "Not Lame" records into releasing these for real so that the artists can get some royalties for their efforts. I would definitely pay for this one and for the Squeeze one you did a few months ago. Like you, I'm bummed that nobody covered "Goodbye Stranger" and "Gone Hollywood." Maybe you'll get some late entries that will allow you to add these songs later (to make the album perfect). My suggestion for your next "Idol" project is the "Rumours" album by Fleetwood Mac. Even if we do end up with seven different covers of "Dreams".
Hey everybody, I really enjoyed listening to all these versions.
Geoff – your cover of Casual Conversations is hilarious. I don't know how it could have been done any other way.
Also greatly enjoyed Brecht Fist and Amy Rica's Breakfast in America… if you had to pick one for an album, I think that'd be my choice.
I started listening to Coverville about 6 months ago and got very quickly hooked. Since then, I've been trying to get all the other musos I know to listen in. I was also really looking forward to putting in a few cover entries into this Coverville Idol.
The guys I play in bands with (Black & Blue and the Lowdown Street Orchestra) liked the idea of putting something together, but I still don't know if they've listened to any episodes. I guess they will now, at least this one!!
Hope you enjoyed my solo track too.
I might have a crack at Gone Hollywood and Goodbye Stranger either alone or with one of the above bands at some time also.
The "Child of Vision" cover by Lowdown Street Orchestra has been my favorite so far…amazing horn work, great mixing! But as has already been mentioned, all of these tracks shine in their own unique way. I may very well have to give it a go at one of the yet unrecorded tracks to satiate my appetite for a 'complete' cover album. 🙂
Hey guys, blatant self promotion… If you want hear my efforts at covering "Just Another Nervous Wreck", I've got a version up at my new covers blog – http://chickenduck.amrichard.com – Brian will have a full collection of BIA covers at some point!!
