Here's a little more information about Boney M. They have been around since the 70's and had an amazingly successful double A side (remember them?!) with Rivers of Babylon and Brown Girl In The Ring in 1978. One of the best selling singles ever in the UK and it reached number one in lots of countries. Lyrics are from Psalm 137:1. In fact the same year they had another enormous hit with a cover of Mary's Boy child, which remains a UK Christmas staple.
Just re: Many Rivers to Cross, are you in danger of Simon Cowell suing you if you play the Annie Lennox version from "Idol Gives Back" a couple of years ago? If not, it would be a great song to play sometime.
I really enjoyed the song “Rivers of Babylon” by Bony M. I had only ever heard their cover of “Mary’s Boy child,” which I also liked. Glad to hear new stuff…at least it is new to me.
Keep up the great work. Coverville (including Bonus Tracks) is one of my very favorite podcasts and the only music podcast I listen to.
