That would be Yazoo as opposed to Yaz? :0)
Vince Clarke (Depeche Mode, Erasure) + Alison Moyet.
The Flying Pickets did a cool acapella version in the 80’s too!
I am familiar with the Flying Pickets version, too. From a late ’80s early ’90s acapella compilation of mostly covers (the only non-cover I can think of that is on the CD is the Bangles singing an acapella version of their own “Walk Like An Egyptian”. Anyway, that was absolutely gorgeous. I love Coverville and like almost everything I hear here, but that was exquisite. Thanks!

The band started off as Yazoo but changed their name to Yaz when they crossed over to the US and released singles like Don’t Go from their debut album Upstairs at Eric’s.
Wow Conrad, I never realised this, so sorry to Brian. Why on earth “Yaz”? What was wrong with the proper name? Was there a special tax that applied over 3 letters?!!
Let’s face it, the name of the band is Yazoo, IMHO!!
Thanks for turning me on to 58! I hope I can find that Cd locally.
Yazoo is so old school. Everyone calls them Yaz now. 😉
