Tonight’s show is a crossover event, as I take some of the tracks I’ve analyzed on Lyrics Undercover (subscribe: web/iTunes), and play the songs I couldn’t play on that show. It’s a little bit Originalville, a little bit Hodgepodge, and I hope you enjoy it. Here’s what’s on the show tonight:
Title (with link to iTunes, if available) | Artist (with link to the artists’ website, if available) | Album (with link to Amazon.com, if available) | Original Artist |
Brandy | Scott English | Trojan Singles Collection, Vol. 2 | covered by Barry Manilow (Mandy) |
Brother Louie | Hot Chocolate | Every 1’s a Winner: The Very Best of Hot Chocolate | covered by Stories |
Superstition | Beck, Bogert & Appice | Beck Bogert & Appice | Stevie Wonder |
A Horse With No Name | Larrikin Love | Take It Easy – 15 Soft Rock Anthems | America |
Where The Wild Roses Grow | Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds (feat. Blixa Bargeld) | B-Sides & Rarities | Nick Cave & Kylie Minogue |
Do They Know It’s Christmas? | Band Aid II | Band Aid II | Band Aid |
Fun episode Brian, but I must take exception with one issue. Hot Chocolate is a british band. It wouldn’t make sense for their couple to be white and African-American. Its a little quibble, but I would bet your black listeners from that side of the pond would want to be represented accurately. Save the syllables and the uncomfortable dance and just say “black” Its easier on everyone involved.
You know, until I heard this, I never knew there was a third release of Do they know it’s Christmas? Scarred after the second release obviously. I agree it was PAINFUL to listen to.
I would also be failing in my duty as Coverville Boyband correspondent if I did not mention that Westlife did a cover of “Mandy” in the last few years that was not that bad actually.
Where can I find that Do They Know it’s Christmas cover/version?
