"Ich Kann Nix Darfur" is, I think, a lost in pronunciation title, something like "Don't Cry for me Marg and Tina". The song lyric is actually "aber ich kann nichts dafür" which roughly translated means "but I can't help it" or "but I am not resposible for it"
Ya ! This is awesome. Especially the dark Heroes cover and Young Folks.
Enriching my life, I thank you.
Alright – I think Comments are finally working!
Does "Helden" count as a translation? Bowie recorded "Helden" in the same recording sessions (in Berlin) where he recorded "Heroes".
That's a good point. I think that since the familiar version (at least for American audiences) is the english version, then it qualifies. But I do plan a show where I play artists re-doing their own songs in a different language (for example, The Beatles' German version of "I Want To Hold Your Hand")
Alright! Glad to hear it!
Birthdays in May, besides Bono and Billy Joel; Donovan; Eric Burdon (Animals, War); Frankie Valli – have you ever heard Four Seasons' Don't Think Twice It's All Right? OMG; David Byrne; Janet Jackson, and of course, Bob Dylan.
I thought that last song sounded like the dude from rammstein!
Still, Brian's translation (I can mix Darfur) was a great example of the capability of Google Translate (or any other web translation widget). It's almost impossible to trust them. "Probably a protest album". Ha!
This is great! I've been listening to the soundtrack from Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which has a few great Hawaiian covers by the Coconutz.
Ye Gods, you did it again. That transition between Shaft and Helden was pure artistry.
My birthday is in may too! 🙂
I got such a chuckle out of the Nena mistranslation! Totally understandable, though, if you don't speak a language you can't recognize common words like "nichts" and "dafür." But I loved how much more meaningful your take on it was…
Well, it was a two part transformation. The original title was "Ich Kann Nix Dafür" and "nix" is common slang, German and 1940's NY American, for "nichts" or "not". DIIK at what point "Dafür" was misheard as "Darfur".
