Great episode!
Just a heads up: Hedwig is German and is pronounced 'hedvig'
Did the AAC version get posted with no chapter markings or cover art?
Actually, there is a full CD of Hedwig covers, called Wig in a Box. Unfortunately, it's not very good, but it is a benefit album for a good cause and you can check it out at http://www.amazon.com/Wig-Box-Various-Artists/dp/…
I do think the Cyndi Lauper and Rufus Wainwright tracks are good.
@ Michael – Don't know if you have heard The Polyphonic Spree's version of "Wig in a box" from that album, but I think it's awesome – I'm hoping Brian can play this at some point.
Also, as a proud Englishman, how have I got through 39 years without knowing of that Kinks track?
Thanks for playing the SOS cover, Brian!
I love how Dar Williams can take a very uplifting song and make it sound like the saddest thing ever! Loved it though.
I disagree about Wig in a Box – I think it's quite good! Cyndi Lauper's version of Midnight Radio is a standout though. There are other Hedwig covers out there too, and I love that people are covering that awesome music as rock songs and not "showtunes," ('cause even though Hedwig is technically a musical, that's really what those songs are). Meat Loaf did a (not very good) Tear Me Down, and Ben Jelen and Sven-Erik Seaholm have both done Wicked Little Town, Ben Warren covered The Long Grift and Matthew Presidente did Origin of Love. I bet there are tons more out there off iTunes in indier circles!
