That. was. BRILLIANT.
But, seriously, any RPS simulator that doesn't include "match" is simply inadequate in the current market. Especially given the open-source software that allows you to add any local variant you feel like…
Ha! That was great – very well done! I particularly enjoyed Tina's joining the show for the throwdown. That was good, but not as good as her making the connection between Christopher Cross' Sailing and Noah's Ark in the last show. Keep up the good work!
Oh – +1 on the RPS simulator comments above, couldn't agree more.
Wow, thanks so much for the in-depth Don Guchenberger interview. I'd been waiting for something like that on ESPN, but unfortunately, they always give RPS short shrift, especially during underwater basket weaving season. It's always interesting to hear the differences in strategy between someone like Don, who originates in the Northeast, and someone like John "Letter Size Paper" Lett, who came up on the West Coast.
By the way, I assume you're going to get a few complaints about the unusual format of this episode of the podcast. Hey, I don't mind a little music mixed in with my RPS once in a while (of course, not during competition, when I really need to concentrate — the trend toward "extreme RPS" has been a little disturbing).
However, if you're thinking of making these "remake songs" a regular feature, you might consider doing a separate podcast featuring them. I think there might be some interest even among those misguided people who aren't "into" RPS, and they might be happier if they didn't have to sit through RPS strategy discussions.
Incidentally, I was interested enough in this "remake song" concept that I looked it up on Wikipedia. It said that another term for them is "cover songs." Maybe if you do end up producing a new podcast, you could use that term instead, in honor of the famous "paper covers rock" rule.
Lizard Spock! Long live Lizard Spock!
btw, great show. esp loved the songs on the theme. you're novelty shows always make me smile.
and yes, I know it should have been your instead of you're (doh)
I've played the Jan Ken Po beta for WiiWare and have to say the controls are pretty simple. Shake the WiiMote three times than choose your gesture. Hold "a" and "b" for rock, hold "b" for scissors, and no buttons for paper. I can't image trying to remember 25 different button combos for the extended gesture set. I think there is the "bomb" option for pushing 'up' on the d-pad. Not sure didn't try it, and my beta has expired. Its a pretty tight little game, and the AI isn't just random, it "learns" and has multiple skill level modes.
Brian you might want to include this in a future show, just be forewarned that the language might not be okay for young listeners interested in rock paper scissors

Hilarious! But you do know there is a World RPS society and annual championship and a USA league don't you?!
Only in the USA!!
Of course! Where do you think I got a lot of my information? And you don't think Don Guckenberger is just some random yahoo I pulled off the street, do you?
this was brilliant. loved the music. had a grin on my face for a while (quite a while) after listening. loved the commercial too.
Nice. I love the commitment you showed by keeping it up for a full show. The interview was the highlight for me.
Great show. I feel compelled to mention that the ultimate players association exists as an organization for people who play…ultimate disc (or frisbee, if you prefer. A fine organization that occasionally overlaps with RPS to decide who gets the disc first when starting a game.
