For the last cover story of the year, let’s look at the music of British signer/songwriter Billy Bragg, whose birthday is coming up on this Sunday.

My first cover story request! So very excited.
Poor Kirsty – you didn't mention it Brian, but we lost Kirsty MacColl this day in 2000 (18 December 2000). She's still missed…
How about a cover story for her?
Nice pairing of Walk Away Renee (a Four Tops cover song) with Levi Stubbs' Tears (the Four Tops lead singer)! Don't think it went unnoticed.
Interesting – sounds like Billy lifeted the opening line to "New England" from Paul Simon's "Leaves That Are Green". I wonder if Paul got co-writing credit?
I heard that Billy Bragg had intentionally used the line as S & G were big influences on him. I don't think Paul Simon is that bothered.
I meant to say too, just when I think you have raised the bar really high with these cover stories, you go and raise it again – superb tribute!
er… "Lifted" not "Lifeted"
Wow, great! Thanks a lot for this. Billy is one of those great songwriters that always seems to get overlooked. I stumbled upon this today that makes a nice holiday addition to this, a cover of Fairytale Of New York by Billy and Flo:
