I listen to the first half live; I’ll catch the rest later.
Man, if I knew you were doing partials, I would have requested the Grass Roots. http://www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/genre/rock-and-pop/rob-grill-the-grass-roots-singer-dead-at-1005272182.story
Monkey Man is a Toots & The Maytals song. It precedes the Specials version by a full decade.
I was never a fan of Amy Winehouse, so I skipped over those songs, but I really enjoyed the America covers.
thanks for including lovespirals’ cover of “you girl” brian! we were so sad to hear about dan’s passing. btw, that song is included on our 2002 debut album, ‘windblown kiss,’ available on itunes, amazon, etc etc.
I’m glad you did something for Amy Winehouse. I was going to suggest you do a special cover story on “The 27 Club,” artists that died at the age of 27 such as Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin and Jimi Hendrix.
Just catching up. Way late, I know.
AWESOME covers for the America section. Thank you for reminding me of a great band which I was really too young to appreciate (but my siblings weren’t). I remember being 7 or 8 and having my 3 sibs play America songs over and over (and over and over). Now to get the greatest hits CD…
And the Winehouse numbers were (dare I say it?) fun. She leaves us a sad legacy, but it was nice to see that her influence isn’t just limited to Adele…
