I first heard Jimmy Buffett’s version of ‘Southern Cross’ at a Buffett concert and was blown away. The original got heavy rotation in the early days of MTV, and I could happily die without ever hearing it again. Jimmy makes this song *groove* – a must-have on my desert-island-disk.
It’s what, almost 20 years since the Late Show was on TV? I still can’t hear Teach Your Children without picturing it sung by Grassby, Grills, Nudge and Plumb. ( http://www.champagnecomedy.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-64.html )
It’s the same with David Boon’s Once in a Lifetime and Mike Whitney’s I Will Always Love You.
Hi, Brian- entertaining, especially the gaffes.
2. You must love that song; you played it on show #614. In fact, it inspired me to buy the album.
3. Yes, Crosby was not in Springfield, tho in its disintegration, Crosby would sit in with the remnants of the band.
4. This was a Stephen Stills solo song originally, and a hit single, though CSNY performed it on Four Way Street
5. This was by CSNY (Deja Vu) not CSN
8. This was CSN (first album) not CSNY
Woo! Thanks for playing The Dandy Warhols. I know I asked you to play something by them a few months ago but you never got back to me.
Sort of ironic that you did this show in honor of David Crosby’s birthday and did not play a single David Crosby song. Given how obsessively CSN&Y kept track of how many of each guy’s songs made it onto an album or setlist this is doubly ironic.
Hi Brian – good point. My focus (obviously) was on songs that CSNY performed, but not specifically on songs that David Crosby wrote. However, I’d love to play a track or two on a follow-up show. Send me a couple good recommendations for covers of songs that David Crosby wrote, and I’ll check them out for a later show, where I can talk about your email!
