We’re almost to episode 1000, so let’s listen to a show of covers of songs that were hugely popular, but only made it to #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It’s a show of almosts! (61 minutes)

Fantastic theme. Way better than songs with “almost” in the title. That was a great show. I was really expecting to hear The Hollies biggest hit which semi-famously only hit #2
According to my Billboard book, CCR had 5 #2s, but not in a row: Proud Mary (#2), Bad Moon Rising (#2), Green River (#2), but then Down on the Corner (#3), Travelin’ Band (#2), Up Around the Bend (#4), Lookin’ Out Through My Back Door (#2).
BTW, I remember it was the Police that blocked Eddy Grant (why IS that?)
I was half expecting to her “Gangnam Style,” which was kept from #1 by Maroon 5’s “One More Night” 🙂
In any case, Congrats on 1,000 episodes!
Great episode. I’ve really disliked YMCA for many years but this version had made me appreciate it again. Love the Nights in White Satin cover too. Happy C1K.
This was quite a fun episode. Amazing how many of those that didn’t make #1 I knew better than those that stopped them.
re: Emilie Autumn… always bugs me when a cover gets the lyrics wrong. 😛
I’m having a problem playing this episode. It keeps buffering for some reason.
