It’s a beautiful rendition of the Dire Straits track (which is indeed my favorite song), but I’m not sure that it adds anything new to it. Listen and judge for yourself.

You’re welcome, I have to agree that it doesn’t really add much, but they do a good job nonetheless, and I was surprised how good it was when I heard it for the first time yesterday

I guess they get points for unearthing this amazingly beautiful song (long time fav as well) but it’s sorely lacking in vulnerability and sincerity. I wish Neil Finn would cover this tune.

Nothing new I agree, but I am a Dire Straits freak so enjoyed this.
I’ll mention to my work colleague – she saw the Killers live in manchester at the weekend – wonder if they included this in their set?
I agree that this doesn’t really add much – and that the Monte Montgomery cover is phenomenal.
I think The Indigo Girls version is the best, even better than the original. The key for me is giving “Hey, la, my boyfriend’s back” a real melody (since it’s a Shirelles clip) versus the nearly monotone talking of the remainder of the song.
I suppose that I should also say that I’m disappointed that none of the covers (or original) that I’ve heard have tried to put a melody to the “there’s a place for us” line, since that’s a clip from the theme song to the Zefferelli [sic] 1968 or so version of _Romeo & Juliet_. Not that it’s a very good song, but it would match the Shirelles clip, and I suspect that most people don’t recognize the line even though it’s followed with “you know the movie song”.
Eh. It’s decent, but i dunno. Seems like they try too hard to emulate the original, or at least the vocals. Props for digging up the song, or for doing a Dire straits song, period..But they definately lose points for staying entirely TOO true to the original.

I think this is the best cover…it doesn’t add too much to completely alter the song, and that’s what a good cover is. However, they add feeling which the Dire Straits version is just a dry song. I really loved this rendition…
